AMRS Winton 27/8/06

AMRS Winton 27/8/06 photos

What a contrast to the may meeting. Full fields diverse cars and fantastic racing.

If you are like me and getting tired of seeing different coloured CommoFalcons chasing each other around the track you have to give this series a chance. Plenty of different cars, lots of passing and plenty of action.

After the may meeting I was sceptical but this event proved just how good it can be. Talk is even bigger & better next year with big banger sports cars joining Thundersports and an ex INDY car joining the OZBOSS which will certainly make things interesting.

They have certainly won me over

Mildura/Lake Mungo area

What an interesting area this was. What a contrasting country, within a couple of hours we have river boats on the Murray and huge sandhills at Mungo where a lake was 40,000 years ago.

Even though it is posted as 4wd avised to Mungo we saw 2 Japanese tourists take a 'rent a wreck' Camry out there which I still find increadible but seeing them take photos while people pulled them back onto the road just put icing on the cake. They thought it was great fun but they did not get concerned that only a few vehicles a day went along that road and there are warnings to tell people you are going there.

BrokenHill/Silverton area

A few shots from trip including Broken Hill, Silverton, Mundi Mundi areas.

This is a great area to visit but Broken Hill itself is a typical min ing town (dirty and dingy looking)

AMRS Winton 7/5/06

Well,
For a national series this is pathetic. Just consider these stats
  1. 8 cars in the F4000 series for the 'Gold Star' What a hollow status this has become
  2. 8 cars in the production touring car series
  3. 10 in the Thundersports
  4. 10 in the Kingswoods
  5. Thank god for the Touring Car Challenge - decent cars, number and great racing

If you were unfortunate like me and shelled out your $20 to attend this so called meeting get onto the promoters and send them an email.

Talking to a number of the other 50 or so paying spectators i doubt very much if many of them will give it a second chance later this year.

If it is the promoters that caused such a pathetic showing they desrve a kick but if it was a lack of support from competitors they deserve to have their cars parked in sheds. Come on get out and support the damn thing before you have nowhere to race and then start whining.
